Izvještaj s događaja: Zoran Predin, "Bezgrešna"

On July 3, 2024 in the courtyard of the Buybook bookstore in Sarajevo, Zoran Predin's lecture was held at the Bookstan literary festival. Predin is a Slovenian rock musician and songwriter best known as the leader of the folk-rock group Lačni Franz during the 1980s. In addition to being a musician, Predin is also known for composing music for film, television and theater.
The event started at 7 p.m., and the host of the evening was Jagna Pogačnik. A large audience of different generations was present, which contributed to the insight that the readership of this novel is made up of both young and old people. The main topic of the evening was Predin's novel “Bezgrešna”, which is described as an exceptional political satire with crime elements, enriched with dark humor. The discussion deeply covered topics such as the influence of religion and politics on everyday life, as well as the influence of modern trends from the West on Eastern cultures. With his sharp reflections, Predin revealed layers of meaning in his work, how religion affects all of us, how politics is harmful to all of us and numerous other topics imbued with black humor, satire, at the same time encouraging the audience to reflect on the wider social context in which literature meets political and cultural changes. After attending Predin's lecture, many will be motivated to read his book “Bezgrešna”. Many will feel the urge to further explore the world Predin has created in his novel, where humor meets introspection, creating a wealth of experiences that are hard to forget.
During the conversation, Zoran Predin pointed out that his true literary role models are the great classics. He emphasized how he was deeply inspired by great writers and writers whose works have survived the test of time and deeply influenced the literary tradition. In addition, the conversation included the question of why, despite a successful musical career, he decided to engage in literature. Predin explained that he was drawn to the complexity and depth that literature provides, allowing him to explore themes and characters in a way that music may not be able to capture in such detail. Zoran Predin emphasized the significant impact of the change in pop music during the nineties of the last century on his creativity. Predin pointed out that during that time there were significant transformations in pop music, and that it no longer identified with the traditional characteristics it possessed in previous decades.
As a conclusion of this report, it is important to emphasize that politics, music and religion have a significant influence on all types of art, as Zoran Predin pointed out during the interview. Predin underlined how these factors not only shape the themes and content of artworks, but often encourage artists to react and adapt to social and cultural changes. Throughout his rich career, Predin has continuously reflected these influences in his music, staying true to his personal artistic vision while at the same time responding to contemporary challenges and values that these factors impose on art.
