Mitja Čander (Maribor, Slovenia, 1974) has been one of the most influential figures in the Slovenian literary and publishing world for decades – although he only published his literary debut, the novel Blind Man, in 2019. As an editor and literary critic, co-founder and director of the publishing house Beletrina, essayist, screenwriter, playwright, columnist and candidate for chess master, Čander has achieved a lot during his career and led numerous important projects, such as Maribor – European Capital of Culture 2012. Since 1992, he has published numerous articles and essays on Slovenian and world literature and has received a number of awards for his work.
